*The meeting will take place on July 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the Central Archive of the Department, located in Shingle Hill.

With an agreement between the Departmental Government and the representatives of the community of taxi drivers on the island, the demonstration which was carried out by the majority of the union outside of the Coral Palace, came to an ended.

According to the Planning Secretary, Roberto Bush Felipe, in his capacity as Governor in charge, one of the main agreements agreed upon during the meeting was the creation of a working table that will deal with all the demands established by the protesters.

"This work group will be held on July 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the headquarters of the Central Archive of the Department located in Shingle Hill. On this work table, we will address the issues that today were agreed with mobility, security and the norm that has interference on commercial establishments,"said Bush Felipe.

In the conciliation session, members of the community will also be able to participate in representation of each of the topics that will be discussed.

"The idea is that together, the Department with the representatives of each of these issues reaches agreements during the treatment of the topics or strategic thematic ideas, which were of interest to each of the protesters,"the official added.

Another point discussed was the resistance of the community to obey the regulations that require the use of helmet to safeguard the lives of riders when they transit on the streets. Given this, Bush Felipe said that the regulations are still in the pedagogy phase.

"It is not necessary to suspend the rule, as requested by community demonstrators, since it is in the pedagogy phase. In this phase, there are no financial fines. We are still in the pedagogy phase for the use of helmets,"the official concluded.

During the meeting there were representatives of the National Police in the Department, Ombudsman's Office and the Attorney General's Office.

Finally, the president of the Airport Association of Taxi Drivers, Alberto Gordon, stated that that the community is in favor of listening to the proposals of the Departmental Government and reach agreements.

"We want to deal with safety issues that have to do with the speed reducers located around the island. These have become a trap where they are waiting for drivers to slow down in order to rob them. We ask the Mobility Office for traffic agents to continue supporting us at the airport to guarantee control on vehicles that arrive to pick up passengers and are not part of the taxi union. In addition, we want to touch on other topics of vital importance,"concluded Alberto Gordon.
