The inaugural ceremony of Emancipation Week 2025 took place this Friday at the First Baptist Church of San Andrés Islands, with an emotional and solemn celebration that honored the dignity and identity of the Raizal people.
The ceremony featured outstanding musical performances by local artists and talents, showcasing their identity and culture while worshiping God as the great spiritual rock of the Raizal people.
Marking 25 years since the emancipation celebration began, Bob Marley’s phrase about freeing yourself and breaking chains from the mind and heart was remembered. During the ceremony, tributes were paid to iconic leaders and figures of the Raizal community who have been instrumental in the fight for their rights.
The Declaration of Emancipation was also read, reflecting the spirit of the past, present, and the desire for self-determination of the Raizal people.
This marked the beginning of Emancipation Week 2025 with a grand gala ceremony.
